5 Things I Love: 09/18/19

I'd like to start this post by saying that I am so sorry for the unannounced hiatus. I've been struggling a lot with my mental heath lately. With the turn of the season, my anxiety has pricked up and my depression has come out, and I find myself without the motivation or energy to do much of anything; even the things I used to take great pleasure in (including this blog). I want to start this week off a little more hopeful by writing a short article, and asking anyone who is feeling overwhelmed as Autumn starts and brings with it classes, new projects and responsibilities, to contact support if they find themselves overwhelmed. Thank you.

Now that I've exposed myself, let's perk up a little while I share 5 things I actually found really cool this week.

5 Things I Love: 08/29/19 | Jackie O My

We're coming up on another weekend, but before we do, I'm here to deliver your weekly dose of essential reads and inspiration.

My week has been...well, boring. I'm definitely stuck in a rut lately, and although I hope it doesn't show through the quality of my writing, I'm looking for a big change to spice up my life. Some options I'm checking into: a new diet, yoga classes, a completely new makeup look & wardrobe, and just getting out more from behind my computer screen. Spending time outdoors is a must. But while I'm here, let me update you on 5 cool things I discovered this week. Enjoy!

Palermo, Italy Should Def Be On Your Travel Wish List

Palermo, Italy Should Def Be On Your Travel Wish List | Jackie O My

Ah, dear readers, today I can't take credit for this beautiful post. As it happens, the photography I'm sharing today I found on SF Girl By Bay. After squeeing over the bright and beautiful travel photos of Victoria's trip to Palermo, Italy, I emailed her asking if she would mind me sharing them, and she graciously said she didn't mind at all. So if you missed her Italian travel photo diary, you can now see Sicily in all its splendour. You're welcome.

Victoria manages to capture such a marvelous 60's vibe with her photography style and subjects. I feel she must have travelled from destination to destination on a vintage moped wearing a silk head scarf a la Audrey Hepburn.

I adore the architecture of the airbnb Victoria stayed at above. While her trip lasted only two days, she boasts of experiencing some delightful marketplaces and delicious restaurants.

For all the details, you absolutely need to check out the original post on SF Girl By Bay. Enjoy, and happy daydreaming.

It's Friday again and boy, do I have a lot to vent to you guys about. I'm going to be saving it for a video next week, but let's just say every bit of me is drained. Good thing I had all these lively photos for inspiration this week to keep me keepin' on. May they bring the same liveliness to your weekend.

June Mood board | Simplicity

As I mentioned in my last Innika Choo post, late spring & early summer is when I start to feel a need to reinvent my style and pare down my wardrobe. I feel a need for simplicity in my clothing, of freshness. This mood board reflects my favorite bits of the season: salty ocean air, billowy fabrics to keep cool, fresh flowers, and longer days to spend reading. I hope this airy white-sea inspired mood board helps you capture a bit of spring and summer, and inspires your wardrobe too.

The sun is finally out and my mood has been changing with the season. Does anyone else feel a lot more like themselves when the weather is sunny? I feel like my personality comes easier, like I don't have to try as hard to look nice and style my Instagram feed. I'm less unsure of myself as a person. Maybe winter is just the season of me trying to be something I'm not. Or maybe I just have a sunny disposition. Either way, spring is here and it is liberating.

Anyway, I've rounded up a fresh dose of cool things, and I'm serving them now. Check out the links below!

5 things I love:

1. I'm still loving all the new swimwear popping up, and colourful wetsuits always catch my eye. I love the Suka Wetsuit by Stone Fox Swim - the print is so fun.

2. I'm cultivating my earring collection at the moment. I want to have "nice" jewelry, not just sets from trendy teen shops that come on cardboard backing (not that there's anything wrong with that). I've already picked up some sweet little Michael Kors padlock earrings, but what do I have my eye on next? These dainty Baby Pearl Hoops from Catbird and the Lady Grey Multi Ring Hoops from UO.

3. I love chocolate, especially mousse. If you're like me, head over to Kate La Vie's blog to find a chocolate mousse with a twist: Vegan Chocolate Orange Mousse.

4. I loved Connie & Luna's Kyoto Green Tea Matcha Day Trip Itinerary. So magical! I would love to visit Kyoto one day.

5. I came across cool-girl brand Aya Muse and I am obsessed. The clothing is decidedly influencer-esque, trendy, and a dash of sexy. Scroll down for some more of their looks.

A Little Peek Into My Design Process | How To Design A Logo

You may not know this, but aside from blogging, I also run a little side-hustle Etsy shop. It's called Jackie O My Shop. I began my shop when I realized there was a lack of affordable, high quality minimal logos available to purchase for my own site. As a small blogger, I understand that many are not able to spend a large sum on a logo, but are still trying to make their brand stand out. It became a goal of mine to offer people like myself options for a beautiful logo for little more than the price of a Frappucino.

Featured Artist: Janice Sung | Jackie O My

It's been a while since I shared my last featured artist, but I came across Janice Sung's incredible artwork and knew it was time to talk art again.

A fellow Canadian based in Toronto, Janice is a well-established designer and illustrator who's worked closely with magazines and luxury brands. It's not hard to see Janice's work is often inspired by fashion and beauty, but it's interesting how she also incorporates natural elements and just a dash of minimalistic shapes to give her art a colorful punch. A bit from her biography:
[Janice] enjoys incorporating organic forms like foliage with inorganic geometric forms like abstract shapes to create an interesting visual contrast, creating an overall feel of sultriness and sophistication.
I've never seen illustration quite like Janice's before, and I'm happy to say she's become one of my favorite illustrators. I just love how fresh, modern and colorful her work is.

One more quick fact: She loves mangoes and Taiwanese fried chicken. Yum! Scroll down to see her work.

Happy Monday! Here to get you in the mood for the hustle of the work week, I'm bringing you another fresh five things I love.

Personally, I've been staying indoors and working on the blog (creating an email list where you can score some pretty cool freebies, just saying), and now I'm thinking of fun in the sun. Can you tell by my link roundup that I'm ready to hit the beach? Read on.

How To Make Killer Mood boards

I love making mood boards. I first learned the ropes from reading DesignLoveFest; my understanding is that in the dawn of blogging, she loved to pair two images together and write about them. So adorably, refreshingly simple, I fell in love with her blog right then.

5 Things I Love & For Love & Lemons Latest Ready To Wear Campaign

5 Things I Love & For Love & Lemons Latest Ready To Wear Campaign | Jackie O My
Photo from For Love & Lemons.
It's the first Friday of the new year! In my last 5 Things I Love post, I shared Lack Of Color's newest hat collection. I enjoyed switching things up a bit, so this week I'm combining my 5 Things I Love with a fantastic collection from a longtime favorite brand of mine.

5 Things I Love:

1. Viva Las Vegas! I adore For Love & Lemon's Winter Ready-to-Wear campaign. Clearly taking cues from Las Vegas and the 1960's, this collection is so fun and imaginative. I love when a photo shoot tells a story - this one even incorporates an Elvis impersonator and the famous Little White Chapel. I particularly love the Cosmo Mini Dress - so pink and frilly! Scroll on for my favorite photos from the campaign.

2. It's the time of year we're all changing our habits and considering new resolutions. A Considered Life wrote a great guide to adopting simple living resolutions. So many of the options are easy, and things you may not have thought of!

3. Not Jess Fashion took a magical Christmas trip to Colmar, France, and it is so colorful! See her travel guide here.

4. DesignLoveFest has rounded up 10 healthy Recipes and they look delicious! I'd love to make the chicken salad.

5. Urban Outfitters have released their Spring preview, and I adore the Inka Pleated Mini Skirt and matching Button-Front Blazer. Cher Horowitz would approve!

This 5 Things I Love post is going to be a little bit different. For one thing, it's way overdue, and for another, it's combined with a Brand Love from bohemian favorite Lack Of Color. I've been missing summer, and in this drab winter mood, I wanted to feature a lookbook that warmed me up.      I'm back with another Five Things post, but before I dive right in, I want to start with a quick update. I've been changing the blog so much lately, and honestly I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just sort of rolling with whatever feels right, so I apologize if the content and posting schedule aren't consistent right now.

I've also been completely redesigning my Pinterest and Instagram feeds. It's been so much work but it feels so nice to have a style refresh. If you want to check those out, I'd be so happy to hear from you there! All that being said, let me show you five cool things I found this week.

Today's 5 Things I Love post is a little special, because it marks a change in direction for Jackie O My.

Growing with me

I've been trying to think of the right words for this post. The outfits I wear on my blog are not things I wear in real life, for the most part. When I created Jackie O My, I envisioned this really bohemian vibe I wanted to portray. I've been trying to stick to this aesthetic, but if I'm being honest with myself, I've grown out of my boho phase. I've been limiting myself to this style that just isn't me anymore, and it makes it difficult to feel inspired to make posts here.

The real me wears t-shirts and loves 90's aesthetic. I'm not sure how many people want to see my regular clothes, but I'm giving it a try from now on. I feel like I need to make this space more like me, and hopefully those of you who read what I do here will understand.

Find Paradise In Morocco At Le Riad Yasmine

Friday, 3 August 2018
The Riad Yasmine Morocco

Le Riad Yasmine is an eight-bedroom luxury boutique hotel in Marrakech, Morocco, and the perfect place for an impromptu end-of-summer escape. Like the Riad Jardin Secret, this beautiful hideaway is located near the bustling Medina of Marrakech. The hotel was purchased in 2015 by Gabriel and Alice, who are originally from the south of France. Since then, the duo have been transforming the hotel into "a green paradise, an urban jungle".

Boasting a beautiful rooftop terrace, fresh local cuisine, and a stunning azure pool area, Le Riad Yasmine is a place of relaxation. If you visit, be sure to say hello to the resident cats, who can often be found lazing by the pool. Find your paradise in Morocco at Le Riad Yasmine.
