Review: Summer Fridays Jet Lag Face Mask

Monday 5 August 2019

It's been forever since I've done a product review, and I am so ready to get back into the swing of things! I'm excited because today I'm going to be reviewing Summer Friday's Jet Lag Mask. I have been seeing this mask everywhere: Sephora, Instagram, and in magazines...this mask is everyone's darling of the moment. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of 2019's must-have skincare product, so without further ado, let's get on to the details.

Where to buy:

A full-sized 2.25 oz tube of this mask can be purchased for $48 US on the Summer Fridays website. You can also purchase the full-size product at Sephora, along with a 1 oz mini size for $34 CAD, where the mask holds Sephora's Clean Beauty seal of approval for being free of sulphates, parabens, and other harsh chemicals.

Product details:

From Summer Fridays' product listing:
You don't need to be a jetsetter to have that lag. Upgrade your skin to a business-class complexion - no matter what time your red-eye gets in, or what time your head hits the pillow. This uber-dewy, hydrating mask soothes thirsty, stressed-out skin by steeping cells in a nourishing mix of vitamins, ceramides, antioxidants, and gently exfoliating extracts. Skin looks instantly renewed, radiant and ready for anything.
It also claims to be vegan, cruelty-free and made in the USA. Despite all the buzz around the Jet Lag Mask, the reviews on this product seem surprisingly controversial.

So, what did I think?

I want to preface my review by saying I did not purchase this mask, but it's also not sponsored in any way. I've been eyeing this pretty blue mask for a while, but really wanted to test it out before shelling out a hefty $34 CAD for the mini tube. Luckily, I received two samples with my most recent Sephora order, so I can review the product with complete honestly, unspoiled by the price tag.

The mask has a slight peppermint scent, pleasant and refreshing. It's a rich creme formula that seems to absorb quickly into the skin. The creme is thick and soothing, and tingles ever so slightly at first.

The directions on the mask say there is no need to rinse, but you can "blot with a warm cloth if necessary". Doing so is definitely necessary, as running my finger along my forehead even after twenty-five minutes produced an oily film on my finger. A quick patting with a warm, damp washcloth does the trick, and my skin feels almost impossibly smooth. I can describe the feeling better than clear and clean, with a baby-like softness. Now this is the mask I've been hoping for.

Final thoughts:

Don't listen to what the haters say; this mask delivers everything it promises. I used it twice, a few days apart, and each time my skin looked brighter, healthier, and had a glow to it I can only imagine would come from proper beauty sleep. I rate Summer Friday's Jet Lag Mask a solid 4 out of 5 stars, matching its Sephora review average. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 for these reasons: the oily residue left behind without rinsing, the tingling on application (which felt a little intense the second use), and the fact that to achieve 5 stars, this mask would have to vanish my freckles and age spots like a magic potion. Sadly, it did not, but it still holds a highly respectable score with me, and I will definitely be picking this mask up for myself.

If you'd like to watch me unboxing my latest Sephora order and trying this mask for the first time, I've left the video below!

    1. It really is a lot less hassle than a lot of masks I've tried. If I'm not mistaken, I think they also have a pink, floral-scented mask called the P + R mask that would so fit your lovely aesthetic :) Thanks so much for reading, Elizabeth! x
