Free People Quilted Dolman Jacket

We've officially entered that time of year: the dreaded transition between winter and spring. Here on the east coast it can be sunny one day and raining the next, making it hard to decide what to wear in these in-between days.

It's been foreverrr since I wrote a shopping editorial and I am really feeling the vibes of the new arrivals I've featured here, so let's get down to it. Read on to find out exactly which transitional wardrobe pieces I would buy right now if I had an extra thousand dollars or so.

In Canada, winter means bundling up in oversized parka jackets and braving the cold. Now we've reached February and in my part of the world we'll be in a rainy sort of limbo until May. The weather can be unpredictable but, like everyone else, in these months we'll rely on lighter jackets that can be layered over sweaters or worn on their own. I love jackets made from soft material like cotton or corduroy, but vegan leather and denim are great options, too.

Is there any season where blue jeans aren't appropriate and necessary? As your wardrobe makes the transition from colder weather to sunnier days, you'll likely still need your legs covered and, luckily, your favorite jeans will still carry you month after month. When buying new jeans with spring and summer in mind, I like to veer towards light to medium wash denim, avoiding the darkest indigo shades in favor of a softer color palette, but that's just me. If you really want to try a new trend though, why not go for a denim jumpsuit? They're old school cool, and will keep you warm even without many extra layers.

Try: Free People's Gia Denim Coveralls.

Shoes

Free People Flats

As we leave the sloshy not-quite-snow behind, we can finally shed our rainboots and opt for more flattering footwear. I'm really fond of ankle boots lately, so I was so happy to find versatile pairs that are a hybrid between boots and flats. Classy, modern, but still comfortable enough to brave the chilly days. I'm sure they will go with just about anything.

Try: The Mont Blanc Sandal from Free People.

Long Dresses

Urban Outfitters White Maxi Dress

I like to start easing my spring wardrobe back into circulation around this time, and what better way to do it than stocking up on pretty flowy dresses? Maxi or midi dresses will ensure your legs are toasty, and can be worn with sneakers, ankle boots, or those great flats I just showed you. Denim and vegan leather jackets are a great way to keep this look streamlined and chic.
