Selkie's Circe Collection Is Truly Magical

Selkie's Circe Collection Is Truly Magical
Photos: Kimberley Gordon for Selkie.
It's been a while since I wrote my last brand love and I've been really excited to share this particular lookbook with you next. Dreamy, whimsical and more than a little magical, Selkie's Circe Lookbook is inspired by the book of the same name, written by Madeline Miller (which you can grab here, by the way). Circe is a powerful goddess in the house of Helios who uses her magic to cast spells that are organic and made from the earth. In Photographer and Selkie creator Kimberley Gordon's words:
. . . she is an incredible spirit and a truly fascinating ancient icon for women. Her story has become so modern, speaking against slut shaming and women blaming! Reading the book I drew so much power from Circe, I imagined her living in this modern world. I shot the collection in an abandoned pool house in Bel Air, and I swear I could feel Circe all around us.
The muse in these photos is Rebekka Sandok, and I think she conveyed the role of enchantress and goddess perfectly. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for Madeline Miller's book, and hopefully will be able to write a review of it here in the future. But for now, I will leave you with the knowledge that my favourite piece from this collection is the English Garden Macaron Dress, with the Petal Gown being a close runner-up.

Another Taste Of For Love & Lemons' Fall 2019 Campaign

I'd like to start this post off with a quick apology. I know my posts have all been editorial or campaign commentaries lately, and I'm so sorry for that. I haven't been able to locate my camera after moving, so I may just have to use my iPhone in order to start making original content again. I miss getting in front of the camera, shooting outfit posts, and filming product reviews. We will definitely have more of that very soon! For now, I just want to share a little more fashion with you.

My last post on For Love & Lemons 2019 Ready To Wear Fall Collection was only part one. You see, the lookbook is actually split into two different sections, each featuring great photos starring two different models. I loved both, but could only fit one model's photos in a single post, as this collection was pretty massive. So I'm sharing what I'll call Part II For Fall.

This stunning collection of photos is my favourite of the two halves. This beautiful model looks just like a tourist as she traverses the city of love, stopping to scan a map in the chicest way possible. The clothing here is a little more casual, which is more my cup of tea. I adore the Faye Midi Dress, which is full and sheer and boasts a blooming pattern that can't been ignored.

Vanessa Mooney's New Jewelry Collection Takes Us To Paradise

Monday, 19 August 2019
Vanessa Mooney's New Jewelry Collection Takes Us To Paradise | Jackie O My

Vanessa Mooney never fails to catch attention with her bold jewelry designs and colourful photo campaigns; her Welcome To Paradise capsule collection is no exception.

This lookbook takes us on a magical journey through Thailand with model Cailin Russo as she explores Bangkok in style. The classic gold Vanessa Mooney statement pieces, such as the Avril Earrings, are all here, but what makes this collection particularly unique is the addition of friendship bracelets, beaded necklaces, and bow barrettes, bringing a girlish youth to the typical trends we've been seeing in 2019.

I particularly love the Bejewelled Rosary Necklace - it's so pretty! Which is your favourite piece?

Sugarhigh Lovestoned Brings Us All The Colours With Their Honolulu Daze Collection

Sugarhigh Lovestoned Brings Us All The Colours With Their Honolulu Daze Collection | Jackie O My

You guys may remember wayyyy back in the day when I shared a campaign from a personal favorite brand of mine, Sugarhigh Lovestoned, the avant garde clothing brand for lovers and stoners everywhere (I'm only part of the former). In this lookbook, we're treated to Hawaiian-inspired swimwear and light, breezy clothing perfect for catching every eye during the lazy days of summer.

I'm a huge fan of this collection. In a way, it sort of feels like Sugarhigh Lovestoned getting back to their roots; things are more carefree and spirited. It's definitely not lazy, but it doesn't appear that they're trying too hard, either. I like that they can allow themselves to be colourful, maybe overly-so. They can embrace dorky trends like bucket hats and show their models lounging in the kitchen looking for a snack. This is the kind of photo shoot I love best: one that keeps the vibe cool, candid, and fun.

My favorite piece is (obviously) that colourful patterned bucket hat, although I can't seem to find it on their website. 10/10 would wear everyday.

Art Dealer Is Bringing The 80's Chic Dresses You Didn't Know You Needed

Art Dealer Is Bringing The 80's Chic Dresses You Didn't Know You Needed | Jackie O My

Okay, guys, I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I was today when I discovered ultra-feminine brand Art Dealer. Remember when 80's era romanticism was in and everyone from soap opera stars to music icons were dressing in 1800's-style couture? No? Whatever; it doesn't matter. The point is that Art Dealer's Pre-Fall 2019 lookbook is like a Kate Bush music video, and I am living for it.

Silks, puffed sleeves, hair ribbons - Art Dealer makes it easy to look like Jennifer Connelly of Labyrinth. In all honesty, I would dress like this every day if my suburban landscape would accept me. I can't choose a favorite piece this time - just let me fill my closet with pastel goodness!

Urban Outfitter's Newest Edit Is A 90's Alternative Girl Romance | Jackie O My

I'm back, guys! I wasn't planning on writing a post this week, but when I saw the photography from some of Urban Outfitter's newest arrivals, I just couldn't hold back. These photos make me think of weepy music, the smell of fresh grass, and sitting on bleachers under the stars. Sound like your ideal romance? Scroll on to shop these looks.

Float Away With Innika Choo's Airy Dot & Daisy Collection | Jackie O My

It's been a long time since I've mentioned Innika Choo, and I'm rediscovering how much I love this romantic brand. We're well into spring and I've been reinventing my personal style with a lot of billowing fabrics in white, lavender and blue. Refreshingly, Innika Choo has it all in her Daisy & Dot Campaign.

I'm finally back with another brand love! This time we take a trip to the city of love with Faithfull The Brand's La Femme Campaign as they take Paris by storm with their feminine twist on street wear. In this sultry lookbook, Constanze Saemann is filmed frolicking in the streets of Paris & La Flotte, France by Brydie Mack.

La Confection: Santorini

Friday, 29 March 2019
Girl in striped summer dress

I spotted this gorgeous sun-drenched Summer campaign by La Confection just as the weather turned to sunshine, and now I have all the warm-weather vibes. This Summer 2019 lookbook, filmed in picturesque Santorini, is everything. A little about the setting:
The unique Greek architecture over looking the Aegean sea is unrivaled in its beauty. Making it one of the most famous of the Greek islands. White washed walls, the curves in the architecture, and the little cobble stone streets were made to fall in love with.
Sigh! I kinda have a thing for Greece, and the filming location of this shoot sounds like heaven. This lookbook also reminds me a little of that Amanda Seyfried film Letters To Juliet (does anyone besides me remember that movie?) Anyway, I digress. If you're not already swooning, there's more:
Simple breakfast was a high light consisting of spanakopita and coffee. Lunch and dinners were incredible smorgasbords of mezze plates, fish of the day and octopus salads. The highlight a boat trip with our muse Schirin Frosch on the Aegean with a speed boat the color of our palm green dress.
Okay, that's it, I need to pack for Greece ASAP. While I do that, scroll on to see the rest of this incredible lookbook.

Selkie: Meet Laney

Wednesday, 6 February 2019
Selkie: Meet Laney | Jackie O My

I've been sharing a special Brand Love series on beautiful brand Selkie this season. I previously posted about their first campaign and followed up with a gorgeous floral lookbook of Sophia, another amazing Selkie muse. I'm here at last to complete the post trio with a lookbook featuring Selkie girl Laney, a model, artist, and curator living in New York. But first, let's talk about the myth behind the name. What is Selkie?
In Irish, Scottish, Icelandic and Scandinavian folklore, the Selkie is a woman of the ocean who lives inside a seal skin. When she comes up to the rocks she slips out of her skin to bask in the sun. If a man is able to steal her skin while she sleeps, she is forced to become his wife and live on land. But, if the selkie finds her skin again, she transforms back into her true form and immediately returns to the sea,  free.
I just love that story. Being a big fan of folklore is one of three factors that drew me to this brand. The other two: whimsical color palettes and imaginative photography. I love photography with an unstaged feel, and these shots of Laney walking down the street are perfect. A little more about Laney:
Delaney is a muse in every sense of the word...As a body activist and artist in New York City, Laney works hard to build new paths for women. Being an industry "in between" size and only 5'7", she knows the difficulties first hand of being an irregular "curve" model in 2018.
Just the sort of role-model we need IMO, and a great note to end this post series on. So, what do you think of this fanciful brand?

Selkie: Meet Sophia

Selkie: Sophia | Jackie O My
Photos from Selkie.

Get ready for the second of three whimsical photo shoots, because I'm not done sharing Selkie campaigns yet! This time, beautiful muse and Selkie girl Sophia Esperanza poses against a backdrop of gorgeous pastel bouquets.
As a Vegan activist, Sophia is not afraid to stand up for what she believes. Even with a hefty 3.5 Million following, no negative trolls or conservative comments will ever get in the way of her goal: Spreading awareness about animal cruelty.
Although I'm not vegan, I'm pretty passionate about ending animal cruelty myself, so I totally agree with Sophia's message. This campaign is so feminine, floral and perfect! I love the Pillow Trousers In Coconut personally, but you can check out the rest the campaign (and shop it too) here.

Brand Love: Selkie

Thursday, 27 December 2018
Brand Love: Selkie | Jackie O My

Is this debut campaign from feminine brand Selkie giving you déjà-vu? If it reminds you of Wildfox, it has good reason to: it's a collection by Wildfox's co-founder and former creative director Kimberley Gordon.
Selkie is a whimsical, comfortable clothing line for women, comprised of unique T shirts, Sweat-suits and dresses made from deliciously soft fabrics. This vegan clothing is environmentally conscious and made in Los Angeles.
Mixing pastel hues, billowy fabrics and cute tees, and inspired by folklore, this collection is perfection to me. I absolutely adore the Wrap Dress In Water, which reminds me of Alice In Wonderland, but honestly I'd love if my entire closet were filled with Selkie.

Lazy Oaf: Lost In A World | Jackie O My

Last week, I shared a dreamy Lazy Oaf lookbook inspired by Japanese street style. However, I couldn't resist sharing this one as well, so allow me to introduce you to Lost In A Wold, a decidedly floral campaign from summer '18.

Lazy Oaf: Bukimi

Wednesday, 3 October 2018
Lazy Oaf: Bukimi | Jackie O My

In my last 5 Things I Love post, I mentioned wanting to evolve the aesthetic of Jackie O My and share more of my personal style. I want to incorporate a more playful side of fashion, so today I'm featuring a brand I've always thought was adorable but haven't found an opportunity to mention yet.

London brand Lazy Oaf is the creation of British illustrator and designer Gemma Shiel. Gemma founded the brand in 2001, and since then has been creating womenswear and menswear, drawing inspiration from pop culture, nostalgia, and her own sense of humor. Bukimi is Lazy Oaf's second autumn 2018 lookbook, and my personal favorite. About the lookbook:
Our Autumn range is a love letter to Japan, inspired by the weird and wonderful of Japanese street culture. The sugary sweet pastel palette has a bizarre undercoat of Japanese inspired graphics and anime illustrations, blurring the cute 'kawaii' with the surreal, niche and oddball.
I absolutely love this lookbook. I've always been a fan of Japanese street style, and this collection has such a fun take on it. I especially adore the Pink Leopard Parka.

Brand Love: Vanessa Mooney

Brand Love: Vanessa Mooney | Jackie O My
Photos by Graham Dunn for Vanessa Mooney.

In my last 5 Things I Love post, I mentioned how thrilled I was to discover Los Angeles-based jewelry and fashion designer Vanessa Mooney. Now I'm delving into the brand's philosophy and sharing my favorite campaign photos.

I was immediately drawn to the Spring - Summer 2018 lookbook for one reason: model Zoi Aggeliki is the star of this shoot, and I am getting some serious classic Brooke Shields vibes from her (just look at those amazing brows!). This lookbook is all about casual style and summers spent in arcades by the pier, and Donna Lisa, the wardrobe stylist, did a fantastic job capturing the essence of carefree attitude within these outfits.

Brand Love: Shmelevsky hats

Brand Love: Shmelevsky hats | Jackie O My

When Vlad Shmelevsky, founder of Shmelevsky Hats, reached out to me to introduce me to his handmade Ukrainian hat brand, I was instantly floored by the beauty of the press photography, and the hats within. Vlad and his brother Stas launched the brand in 2017, and the duo have been creating timeless and elegant pieces ever since. Inspired by modern sculpture, Stas creates each hat himself, from sketch to finish:

I admire the laconic forms and lines in the works of British sculptor Anish Kapoor and American sculptor Richard Serra. In our collection, I tried to rethink the classical forms of hats without depriving them of utilitarianism. To emphasize the contours and silhouettes, I used the colors prominent in the works of Anish Kapoor; rich red, blue, pink, and grey.

The color palette is amazing; my personal favorite hat is a tie between the White Mars and the Pink Jupiter; I'd be hard pressed to choose between them.

If you're looking to invest in a statement piece that will stand the test of time, I recommend a hat crafted by the Shmelevsky brothers. The hats start at $170 USD and can be commissioned through the brand's Instagram account.

Rue Stiic: Barcelona Campaign - Jackie O My

Looking for the perfect wardrobe for your next jet-setting adventure? I've been eyeing this Australian-grown brand for the longest time, and I'm so excited to finally be sharing one of their Campaigns with you.

Founded by Jillian Beed in 2003, Rue Stiic has perfected their merge of Californian and Australian coastal style with Bali influence. Based in Byron Bay and handmade in Bali, this carefree bohemian brand "embraces a travel lusting lifestyle". Sounds perfect to me!

Brand Love: Tio Y Tia

Friday, 13 April 2018
Brand Love: Tio Y Tia

Tio Y Tia is a hat line inspired by the American southwest, handmade by the oldest hatmaker in America. Nicole Najafi, Johanna Peet, and Lucy Laught are the women behind the brand. The hats are designed in New York and made of wool from ethically raised sheep in Texas. Each hat is thoughtfully produced and crafted with so much care.

There are currently two styles available from Tio Y Tia, the Dolores and the Gambler. Both are absolutely beautiful.

What drew me to this brand, aside from the love and care put into their craft, was the amazing photography; set against the backdrop of the Mojave desert, these hats stand out. It's definitely worth a foray into classic western fashion.

For Love & Lemons Spring 2018 Ready-To-Wear

Tuesday, 27 March 2018
For Love & Lemons Spring 2018 Ready-To-Wear

Think about Spring style for a moment. Chances are your first thoughts were of floral prints, white lace and breezy linens. For Love & Lemons' new campaign has them all in spades.

The brand's Spring Ready To Wear lookbook is one of my all-time favorites of theirs. I adore the combination of luxury and simplicity, and the clothes are a style dream come true, a mix of romantic whites and just a dash of colorful prints. They added a touch of tropical flair to their signature feminine, vintage aesthetic, and it works.

My favorite piece is the Hermosa Eyelet Swing Dress, but unfortunately for us, it's already out of stock; the Victorian Tulle Mini Dress comes in a close second. This lookbook is just filled with beautiful frocks, but these two are so wearable and versatile, I could live in them all through Summer.
